LG to power smart TVs by WebOS (LG buys webOS code and patents from HP)

Despite its turbulent history, and finally got in therapy as an open source project under a wholly owned subsidiary of HP called Gram, it seems that WebOS will get a new lease of life – not only as a platform for smartphone. Today, LG announced it is buying all patents and source code of HP, and plans to use the once promising operating system for its line of Smart TVs.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is probably safe to estimate the final number was significantly lower than the HP paid $ 1.2 billion in July 2010. At that time, WebOS still showed great promise despite initial Palm hardware below expectations. But in a span of just 18 months in office HP jerked few-ups, and was ultimately bets big on mobile devices under the Lead Mark Hurd essentially kill the division under Leo Apotheker and almost leave the market consumer PCs.

LG says it has no plans to use WebOS to power a wide range of smartphones or tablets. Like many others in the business, the company remains committed to the Android ecosystem, but with Samsung curves of all profits and market share does not hurt to have a platform independent mobile as backup.

Engineers who are on the team will move to WebOS LG laboratories in California. It is unclear when we will see the company show their plans for the platform on smart TVs or what will happen to webOS Open.

Yes, LG will continue to make cheap plasma TVs

The 2012 PA6500 series (above) has similar specifications to the 2013 PH6500 series, one of two inexpensive LG plasmas.

LG’s 2013 plasma lineup is smaller than last year’s, but the company is still making the non-LCD TVs. In addition to the sole top-end plasma, the 60-inch 60PH6700, there will be a pair of step-down series that lack Smart TV and 3D. As usual pricing was not announced, but these are bound to be among the least expensive televisions in their respective classes.

One will encompass two sizes, the 50-inch 50PN6500 and the 60-inch 60PN6500. Its main features are 1080p resolution and a new “Hair Line” bezel, which we assume means a thinner frame around the screen. It looks like the direct descendant of the 2012 PA6500 series, an unimpressive example among budget plasmas.

The other also sports two sizes, the 42-inch 42PN4500 and the 50-inch 50PN4500, both with 720p resolution — and little else. Its 2012 predecessor, the 2012 PA4500 series, was likewise not among our favorite inexpensive TVs.

I do not remember ever having a break of more of any cable, satellite or internet provider before. This was (still is?) a serious problem and I for one would like to know more about what happened to my piece of mind. AT & T is too big and important to our national infrastructure. “

Although it is not yet clear what happened, AT & T said that the downtime was due to a faulty software update. Initially, the company thought it had to do with problems with its servers, but then realized that it was for the update.

AT & T said on its Facebook page that the issue affected less than 1 percent of its 7.4 million U-verse subscribers. Despite the problem being resolved for many people, some users are still posting on the forum AT & T that their service is yet to be restored.
