BoxTV, Times Internet service online streaming video, not only wants to become the Netflix of India, it also looks like an Indian movie discovery platform for visitors from other countries. Now available to all viewers after its limited release in September.
Like Gaana, music streaming service Internet times, BoxTV makes finding content easier, even for people who do not speak Hindi. The films have English subtitles and Internet times Satyan Gajwani CEO told me that the service has “invested a lot of energy in the metadata really perfect, so every movie has an English description of not only sums up the film, but summarizes each of the key scenes and musical sequences, which is really what Indian cinema is known for worldwide. “Content is also organized by popularity, genre, curated characteristics and the viewing habits of their friends.
BoxTV content licenses to producers of Indian films in seven languages (including Tamil, Teluga, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bhojpuri and Bengali) and makes it available through a wide range of platforms, given the wide variety of ways in which Indian consumers access the Internet. In addition to a Web site, BoxTV is available on iOS devices, Android phones and tablets, Kindle and connected TV platforms like Roku, and Pod EvoTV Woxi. Bollywood producers providing content to include BoxTV UTV Motion Pictures, Shemaroo Entertainment, Entertainment and Technology Everymedia Rajshri. Apart from indigenous production studios, BoxTV also signed contractual agreements with Sony Pictures Television and UTV Disney, allowing your audience to access TV shows and Hollywood movies like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Spider-Man” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Developers are willing to reach an audience outside India. Besides India, BoxTV also available in the U.S., UK, UAE and Singapore, and will be extended to all other countries. Gajwani says he hopes that, outside India, the U.S. will be the largest market for initial service, but also had unexpected traction in the UK and the UAE “In the medium and long term, we believe that India is the biggest market, but for starters, we expect the U.S. to be bigger, “says Gajwani.
While there are other services out there that offer streaming videos and movies to Indian producers (and a lot of old movies and TV shows are available on YouTube), Gajwani Times expects the Internet the name recognition and the vast catalog that distinguished.
“There is a huge database of Indian content that is not easily accessible by Indians worldwide and so we want to serve our user base to make that connection. Scaling’m sure our strategy will evolve as well, but today really are connecting content and users in a way that is not quite there. In many cases, we are the ones that help to digitize film catalogs a producer of content for the first time, “says Gajwani.
BoxTV a member of The Times of India Group and plans to monetize through advertising and paid subscriptions.
