Microsoft leads the sales of game consoles letters again in the video for NPD Group, January game sales report. While the NPD Group does not include exact numbers of console sales in its report, Microsoft decided to be more open and reveal that 281,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold last month. Besides being the best-selling video game for 25 consecutive months, according to Microsoft Xbox 360 also won the most of any console in January with users spend U.S. $ 338 million in the system between hardware, software and accessories. The NPD Group also announced that 10 selling games of January with Halo 4 on Xbox 360 that comes in at No. 7, and that is the only game on the list released exclusively on a single system. The 10 best-selling games in January consisted of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Far Cry 3, Just Dance 4, NBA 2k13, Madden NFL 13, DmC: Devil May Cry, Halo 4, Assassins Creed 3, Skylanders Giants, and the FIFA Soccer 13. At the other end of the spectrum of sales is Nintendo, Wii U sales are reportedly well below expectations. A source with access to data from NPD told Gamasutra that the Wii U sold “well below” 100,000 units during the month of January, with estimates in the range of between 45,000 and 59,000 systems sold during the month. The Wii U was already suffering from selling fewer consoles than expected, and that Nintendo lowered its sales expectations for the fiscal year from 5.5 to 4 million units. Typically the two ways for a console game to recover from poor sales are launching more games or launch a price cut. However, Nintendo has taken a firm stance against the falling price of Wii U in the near term. The alternative is to offer more games to attract new players. Nintendo seems ready to pick up the pace publish a handful of games, including the much awaited Pikmin 3 before summer. Most of the new games on Nintendo Wii U set to reach the second half of the year, however, it may be too little too late as Microsoft and Sony for its own alleged releases new console, the Xbox 720 and PS4.
